Archaeology                  with Dr. Robert Chadwick

 

 Co-director of the Wadi ath-Thamad Project in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

Bio: Dr. Robert Chadwick is an archaeologist, historian and writer. He taught at John Abbott College, McGill, Concordia, Université de Sherbrooke, and Bishops universities.. Starting in 1976 he has excavated in the American southwest, as well as Europe, Syria, and for more than 20, years he has worked in Jordan where he is co-director of the Wadi ath-Thamad Excavation Project. He is the author of a number of historical and archaeological articles.

Bio: Ursula Juive moved from Argentina to the Townships 5 years ago.

She worked as a college level educator in Architecture for 30 years

and finds her pleasure as an artist.

Springtime YOGA          with Rhona Sewell

 

Bio: Rhona Sewell is a certified ISHTA (Integrated Sciences of Hatha, Tantra and Ayurveda) yoga teacher, a LV Chair yoga teacher, and a Kripalu Ayurveda Yoga specialist. Rhona recently completed Therapeutic Restorative Yoga training with Jillian Pransky. 

 

This course is designed for spring's Kapha season. Through movement (ASANA), breath (PRANAYAMA), and focus (DHARANA), we will balance the heavy, slow, qualities of this season to find renewed energy and connect with inner calm. 

 

Build Confidence and Stamina. Increase Optimism. Explore Stillness. Relax to Restore.

Bio: Melanie Filion was born and raised in the Eastern Townships.  A graduate of Champlain College and Bishop's University, she now works in the Insurance industry.   She is the mother of four children who was once overwhelmed by clutter and now helps others in their journey to declutter their lives.

Course description: This interactive course will provide an overview of decluttering techniques, tips and tricks to help you deal with the physical clutter in your life.  Homework assignments are to be expected.  NOTE: this course does not deal with extreme hoarding

Gemmology Introduction with Suzanne Charlebois

      Gemstone identification through scientific method and analysis.

Bio: Registered gemologist , professional appraiser and custom jewellery designer.

Suzanne has over 13 years experience as a field gemologist specialized in rough diamonds and coloured gemstones. A special consultant to gemstone mining operations in Mexico, Oregon, Tanzania, Russia.  Her clients also include governments, private investors, museums, television production and general public.

Course Description:

Students will get to learn about and work with natural gemstone stones from around the world.  

Be introduced to the standard equipment used for gemological identification. 

 

Students will receive (extra $) a selection of gemstones,

a pocket microscope that works with a smart phone camera to keep and all printed reference material.

Bio: Melissa Stevenson, a veteran to the Adult Education Classes is one of the few instructors born and raised in the Townships. She is a singer (like the sweetest songbird), songwriter and artistic cabinet-maker and about to open her own business.
